Charcoal, burnt branches and ash. Seeds.
This installation talks fundamentally about endings. It seeks to give an existential
perception to the current environmental crisis, making us reflect around the
perishable character of our existence, as individuals and as a species. 2020 was
the year with one of the worst draughts in Mexico. We live in
a slow apocalypse, which instead of loud clatter it has a constant murmur. In
a grey wall at the back the word FUTURE is written with ashes. In the room
lay cinder trees parts. Here the landscape is a trace of it’s own destruction,
and a metaphor of an unavoidable future of darkness and silence. The climate
disaster is the scenario where humanity finds itself, we have deteriorated the
environment that we depend on. Our end has always been unavoidable, but
it now feels close. The possibility of our extinction is present in the collective
consciousness. Nevertheless, a video shows the ashes floating in the air, flashed by
strobes, being substituted by winged seeds, proposing an alternative: a new beginning.
We can only decide how we face the soft catastrophe in which
we consume ourselves. Do we accept the impossibility of tomorrow or do we
rebel against the unavoidable lack of transcendence? Both. Let us be ashes of a
different fire, that fly to nourish forests and seas.
