Video. of an artistic
intervention. 4’:13”. 2018. This video is the document of an intervention with
a strobe light in an abandoned cistern as part of the project No pasa nada.
It continues the exploration of the union between stillness and chaos, but in
this case the space is subtly activated to achieve the dilution of both concepts.
An abandoned cistern, a liquid ruin in apparent immobility is invaded with a
strobe light an action between blayful and murk, that questions our notion of
chaos and order. The result is a video that with a slow pace, keeps us with the
sensation on calm and suspense. This project was developed as a site-specific
work for the exhibition No pasa nada in Lateral (Guadalajara, Mexico, 2018),
an alternative exhibition space, located beside the abandoned house where the
intervention was made, and kept active along the duration of the show.
The video is presented along with pages
of a catalogue of Mexican fish species from the 70′s, that belonged to my father,
who is a biologist. This project tries to meditate about stillnes and
it’s dangers, starting from the idea that sharks don’t sleep, according to various
scientific studies, because in case of staying still for too long they may drown.
Beyond the veracity of that fact, the group of images generates a circular poetic
around concepts like science, calm, terror and chaos.
